Cal. 50. S# 703. Bbl. 26". Rarely seen are 1st model rifles made w/ sling swivels just like the 20" carbines. Standard configuration. “MAYNARD ARMS CO. / WASHINGTON” stamped on right side of frame, left side of frame “MANUFACTURED BY / MASS ARMS CO / CHICOPEE MASS”. Patch box marked vertically w/ “MAYNARD PATENTEE” along w/ 3 dates. According to Howard Madaus in his accompanying copy of ASAC article “The Maynard Rifle & Carbine in the Confederate Service” shows purchases of this weapon by several Confederate states. In article there is a Confederate soldier holding an identical rifle. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: copy of Madaus article. CONDITION: good to very good overall. Gun appears complete, original & matching. Metal overall has a mottled gray patina. Stock is sound, well fit w/ traces of varnish. Mechanically fine w/ clear rifled bore. (01-18177/JS). ANTIQUE. $2,500-3,500.
